Episode Description: During a game of Queens, Bluey and Bingo find that playing the butler is much more fun. But someone must play the Queen, even if it means not being afraid of a bit of hard work.
ACTIVITIES:
- Every Queen needs her crown, so let’s start there. There are lots of ways to make your own:
- An easy origami crown (like the ones pictured above)
- Who doesn’t love a good nature crown?
- I love the look of these watercolour doily crowns
- Felt crowns are perhaps a bit sturdier for re-use
- Queens are also of course famous for their tea parties. You can keep it simple with a pretend tea set – or make it a bit extra, it is for the Queen after all!
- Make tea sandwiches and scones or these adorable tea bag biscuits
- Print out and decorate some paper tea cups
- Or go a bit more Queen of Hearts/Mad Tea Party with your decor inspiration
- Time for a bit of history now. As a commonwealth country, naturally the first queen most of us think of is Queen Elizabeth II (this video from A Kid Explains History is super cute). But of course there are many other queens, current and past to learn about. The book “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls” is a great starting point. If you don’t have the book, here are some videos about Queens covered in the book:
- Cleopatra and Hatshepsut (Egypt)
- Seondeok of Silla (Korea)
- Lakshmi Bai (India)
- Yaa Asantewaa (Ghana)
- And now for a bit of fun:
- “Kings and Queens” is a problem-solving game for kids (available from the App Store or Google Play)
- Or go for a low-tech, old-school game of cards
- And lastly, meet my favourite kind of queen: Kids Meet a Drag Queen and follow it up with some Drag Queen Storytime.
