Loose Parts Press

Welcome to Loose Parts Press – an independent children’s publishing imprint and a whole lot more.

“Loose Parts” is a play theory used mainly by early educators that essentially involves providing children with open-ended materials – bits and bobs like buttons, stones, wooden blocks, pom poms – to play and explore with as a way to stimulate creativity. (You can read more about the theory and practice here)

“Loose Parts” is also a good way to describe my various projects – professionally, artistically and in the community. A whole bunch of random things, though all with a thorough line – creativity.

So, while Loose Parts Press will be largely focused on publishing children’s books, I’m also available for workshops and community events (once real-life community events are a thing again!)

Oh, and I’m Sharon. I’m based in the Blue Mountains in NSW Australia. I’m a mum to two small humans and two spoilt chickens. I work a day job as a “tool librarian” and volunteer with numerous local community groups. I’m passionate about kid lit, gardening, photography, food and social justice – though not necessarily in that order.
