Manuscript Submissions

WE ARE CURRENTLY ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS IN LIMITED CATEGORIES THROUGH AUGUST 1ST.

PLEASE SEND US:

  • Middle Grade manuscripts with a preference for environmental and social justice issues and/or texts by authors from marginalised backgrounds. Own voices preferred.
  • Mysteries – in the range of 8-11 years.
  • FULLY ILLUSTRATED picture books, with artwork already completed. We love colour and creativity! Show us something unique.

    Submissions outside these categories will not receive a response.

PLEASE DON’T SEND US:

  • Multiple submissions. Choose your best work.
  • Works from creators currently living outside of Australia.
  • Stories about war/military, religion, holidays, bullying, farming, dogs. (Nothing against these topics, just not the right fit for us.) We’re also generally not the best fit for fantasy.
  • Anything made using generative AI. Ever.

TO SUBMIT:

Please email Sharon Baldwin at hello@looseparts.com.au with your full manuscript (and artwork if applicable) attached as a pdf. Please include the following info in your email:
Your name, suburb/state, any publication history (debut authors/illustrators welcome!), links to any relevant social media or websites and a brief pitch for your book.

Self-Publishing

We are currently taking a break from assisting with self-publishing projects, but please check back as this may change in the future.

Illustrator Submissions

We are always looking to expand our pool of illustrators, as well as work with illustrators on developing their own children’s book ideas. Please note:

  • Currently we are only accepting submissions from Australian residents only. Submissions from outside Australia will be deleted.
  • We pay all our creatives, but we are a small indie publisher – and our budget reflects that.
  • We are happy to accept submissions from emerging illustrators and students, artists working in digital and/or traditional media, and encourage artists from diverse and under-represented backgrounds.
  • We do NOT accept artwork made using generative AI tools.
