All workshops are held in the Workshop Space and/or Garden, if weather allows. To assist with your risk assessment planning, here is some information regarding safety and accessibility.
Workshop Space
- Our workshop space is separate to the bookshop and closed off to the general public.
- The entrance is on San Jose Ave and there is a dirt path leading to a wooden floor (no stairs). Buses may park on San Jose Ave to avoid having to cross the street. If walking from the train station there will be one street (Badgery Crescent) to cross.
- There is a unisex bathroom facility adjacent to the workshop space which is used only by bookshop staff and workshop participants (not open to the general public).
- There is a kitchenette in this space, which includes a gas stove, kettle, toaster, glassware, and some small knives. Safety precautions will be taken if students are participating in cooking activities – otherwise this equipment will be off-limits.
- This space is not air-conditioned, though we have a space heater and fan. There is a fireplace but it will not be used during workshops.
- Depending on numbers and age, students may be asked to sit on the floor during workshops, however we have chairs and desks available as well.
- There is a First Aid kit and fire extinguisher available onsite.
Garden
- Our back garden is accessed via a set of stairs from the workshop space, or through a gate located on San Jose Ave. It is fully enclosed by fences.
- The garden space is a grass area with uneven surfaces and may present a challenge for wheelchair users. We are happy to discuss modifications that would allow for better accessibility.
- As this is a working garden, tools such as rakes, shovels, pitchforks, etc may be present.
- The garden has a small mud kitchen area which students may access, which was built and maintained by volunteers.
- There are no water risks onsite.
- Wildlife risks may include snakes, bees and spiders. Lyttleton Gardens holds monthly working bees to maintain the garden and keep grass mowed, to minimise these risks.
Bookshop
- Students are welcome to explore RoseyRavelston bookshop after their workshop, though we encourage them to be mindful of other patrons. They are welcome to purchase books
- The bookshop can be accessed via steps from the workshop space. We are aiming to install a ramp so that the bookshop space can be accessible to wheelchairs.
- All bookshop staff (in addition to our facilitators) have WWCC’s.
