About/Contact

Welcome to Loose Parts Press – an independent children’s publishing imprint and a whole lot more!

Loose Parts Press was founded by Sharon Baldwin in 2020 on Darug and Gundungurra land – Australia’s Blue Mountains. We are members of the Australian Publishers Association, the Small Press Network, the Children’s Book Council of Australia, and the Blue Mountains Creative Arts Network.

“Loose Parts” is a play theory used mainly by early educators that essentially involves providing children with open-ended materials – bits and bobs like buttons, stones, wooden blocks, pom poms – to play and explore with as a way to stimulate creativity. (You can read more about the theory and practice here).

“Loose Parts” is also a good way to describe the various projects we all juggle – professionally, artistically and in the community. A whole bunch of random things, though all with a thorough line – creativity.

We hope that our books inspire creativity in our readers as well and strive to produce ethical, sustainable, beautiful books for children. Read more about our values here.
